APRIL
April is Poetry Month! The library is holding a Poetry Writing Contest for all ages!!

    OFFICIAL RULES:

  • All poems must be about the Salem-South Lyon District Library! It could be about the library itself, or about your experiences at the library.
  • Only one entry allowed per person, per age group.
  • All entries must be typed.
  • Please submit all entries to the library by Monday, April 20th, 2015! No late entries will be accepted.
  • All poems must be your original work.
  • All entries will be judged by a blind panel. There will be a winner chosen for each age category. The winners will be announced and contacted on Tuesday, April 28th, 2015!
  • The winners will have their poems published on the library website, in the library e-newsletter, and in the 2015 Annual Report.

April 12-18 is National Library Week. The Theme this year is Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library!

May 4-10-- Screen-Free Week Contest -- Screen-free week (formerly TV-Turnoff Week & Digital Detox Week) is an annual celebration where children, families, schools and communities turn off screens and turn on life. Instead of relying on screens for entertainment participants read, daydream, explore, enjoy nature and spend time with family and friends. It isn’t just about snubbing screens; it’s a springboard for lifestyle changes that will improve well-being and quality of life all year round. To learn more, visit: www.screenfree.org/

Celebrate Screen-free Week at SSLDL by making a pledge to go screen-free for 24 hours. Fill out a contest form telling us your start and end time and what you did instead of watch TV, play video/computer games, text, etc. (one entry per person). Please include your name, phone number and age. You will be entered into a drawing for a year-round Michigan Recreation Passport and Kensington Metro Park Pass (includes access to Huron-Clinton and Oakland County Metroparks). The drawing will be held and winner announced on Monday, May 11.
