Summer Challenge Reading Program-- All Ages!!  Sign up here! 

Program runs from kickoff on June 14th-- until reading logs are due August 4th

Children (infants--5th grade): The Children's Summer Challenge theme is Fizz Boom Read! This Challenge is for infants through 5th grade. Participants are asked to read or be read to for 12 hours to complete this Challenge. There will be fabulous prizes for the Readers and the Read-to-Me kids. There are lots of fun programs to look forward to including: Friday Storytimes, Touch a Truck, The Music Lady, the Howell Nature Center will present Myth Crackers, and more! The Final Party will be on Saturday, August 9 at 1:00 PM for those who turn in completed logs by Monday, August 4th.

Teens (grades 6-12): The Teen Summer Challenge theme is Spark a Reaction. This Challenge is for grades 6-12. In order to complete the Challenge, Teens need to complete 12 of 14 various “challenges.” We'll have a fabulous grand prize!  Some of the fun programs you can look forward to include: Weekly Trivia Contest, a ballistics program presented by All Hands Active, DIY programs, and more! The Final Party will be on Friday, August 8 at 12:00 PM for those who turn in their completed logs by Monday, August 4th.

Adults (age 18 and up): The 2014 Summer Challenge isn't just for kids. There are plenty of fun activities and cool prizes for adults too! To play all you have to do is register (online or at the library), complete 6 easy challenges (read a book, visit us at the farmers' market, etc.) and put your name in the drawing for some fabulous prizes. This year you can be entered to win dinner/movie packages, gifts from local merchants and some cool science-themed merchandise that will make you the envy of all your friends. Want to do something fun, thought-provoking and entertaining this summer? We will be hosting a number of programs for adults including, Soap Making, Behind the Scenes with a Forensic Artist, Historic Downtown South Lyon Walking Tour, and more! The Summer Challenge for adults will end with our 3rd Annual Adult Battle of the Books for Charity. Form a team, read the books and may the best charity team win! There will be a lot of fun things to do at the library this summer. We hope you will join us!

3rd Annual: Booths, Books & Bites: A Library Lawn & Treasure Sale

Saturday, August 23rd from 10:00 AM-- 5:00 PM

What's more fun than going to yard sales?  How about the opportunity to go to a whole bunch of yard sales, right in one place? The library hosts a community lawn and treasure sale every August. Individuals, crafters, businesses and others are welcome to apply to sell items.

PURSE SALE!! This year the SSLDL will be hosting a Purse Sale to raise money for the Library!! Bring your gently used purses and/or wallets to the Library now through August 22nd to donate to the sale. All proceeds will benefit the Library!
