Library DirectorDoreen Hannon credits her three daughters for getting her into the “library world.” She began taking them to the Salem-South Lyon District Library at 6 months of age, checking out tons of books and attending story times. Reading was well-loved and helped the girls reach their goals. Doreen became employed at the Salem-South Lyon District Library in 1996 as a library clerk. She loved the job so much that she decided to pursue a Master degree in Library and Information Science at Wayne State University. Adult Services Department HeadJillian Essenmacher has been with the Salem-South Lyon District Library since the fall of 2009. A graduate from the University of Michigan, she received her B.A. in 2004 with a double major in art history and communication studies. A love of research, literature, and public service inspired her to pursue a career in librarianship. In 2009 she earned her MLIS from Wayne State University's School of Library and Information Science and soon after joined the team at SSLDL. Adult Services InternHalley Todd began working at Salem-South Lyon District Library in July of 2012. She is a Kentucky transplant who graduated from Murray State University in 2010 with a BA in Secondary English Education. Currently, she is pursuing her MSI in Library and Information Science from the University of Michigan. Besides reading, some of her favorite things are outer space, art (especially graphic novels), NCAA basketball, NFL games, the World Series, and cats. Youth Services InternKathy Merucci has been pursuing her Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University since 2009. She has been with the Salem-South Lyon Library since June 2010 when she began working as a volunteer. In April 2011, she was hired as a library clerk. Network AdministratorGarrett Hungerford has been with Salem-South Lyon District Library since 2007 when he was hired in as computer support while pursuing his degree in library science. One year later, with MLIS in hand, Garrett took on the position of Network Administrator at the library. Garrett has over 10 years of library experience in both academic and public libraries with the majority of his focus in technology. Administrative ManagerNancy Lombardo has been with the library since October, 1999. She began as a Circulation Clerk and after receiving her B.B.A. moved into the Administrative Manager position. Nancy received her MLIS. from Wayne State University in 2001. The majority of her time is spent in her office on administrative duties but she enjoys covering the reference desk as often as she can. Public Relations CoordinatorLindsay Gerhardt received her degree in Public Relations from Eastern Michigan University in 2009. When she was just 14 years old, she started working here at the library as a Library Page. Upon graduating from South Lyon High School, she transitioned into a Library Clerk, and is now putting her degree to good use as the Public Relations Coordinator. Some of her duties include: fundraising, planning adult programs, promoting library events,community involvement and designing promotional materials. Property SuperintendentAndrew Hughes was born and raised in Michigan and went to Huron High in Ann Arbor. After a long career in the construction he came to work at the Salem-South Lyon District Library in 2002. He enjoys auto road racing, cooking, and animals. Unique SpecialistKathy Hutchinson moved to the South Lyon area in 1999 and has been employed at the Salem-South Lyon District Library since 2009. She began as a page, and is currently a circulation clerk, and also manages the Unique collection process. Her main focus as a Unique Specialist is to contact patrons that have overdue library materials and attempt to remedy such accounts prior to being sent to a collection agency. Her goal is to retrieve library assets with the cooperation of the patron. She loves working with the patrons and enjoys her time away from the library, gardening, kayaking, hydroplane racing, and volunteering for South Lyon High School Band Program (go band!!).
