Back by popular demand! Are you ready to party yourself into shape? Zumba instructor Shirley King will lead you in the workout craze everyone has been talking about! It’s an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party. This class will get you moving, so be sure to wear your workout clothes and bring a bottle of water!

Michigan Roots: Genealogy Research in the Wolverine State

Drawn by high-paying manufacturing jobs and inexpensive land, thousands of people from all over Europe and the United States, including the Deep South, New England, New York, and Pennsylvania, migrated to Michigan during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This session, aimed at researchers whose ancestral trails extend to and from Michigan, will explore these migration patterns and provide an overview of the rich and abundant genealogical resources available in print and online.

Henry Ford: His Life and Times

Henry Ford spent most of his life making headlines, good, bad, but never indifferent. July 2013 is the 150th anniversary of the birth of Henry Ford. We invite you to attend a presentation on Ford’s life and work by automotive historian and member of the Henry Ford Heritage Association, Russell Dore. You will learn about Ford’s inventions, his family, some of the ways he changed the world, and both the positive and more controversial aspects of his strong personality. Stop by an hour before the program to check out the classic Fords and other cars that will be on display in our parking lot courtesy of the South Lyon Spark Plugs Car Club. Members on the club will be on hand to answer your questions about these dream machines.

Summer Nights Cinema: Jack the Giant Slayer

Join us for an evening at the movies! Jack the Giant Slayer, rated PG-13, will be playing in HD on our big screen complete with surround sound. You bring the pop and we will provide the hot, buttery popcorn. The library closes at 5 PM. Doors will reopen at 5:30 PM.

It Happened to a Friend of a Friend of Mine!: Urban Legends and Other Scary Tales

If you enjoy stories of mystery and intrigue...if you like stories that send a shiver up your spine...if you have always been intrigued with unexplained events...then you will enjoy the telling of these urban legends!  Join storyteller, Jennifer Strauss for urban legends and scary tales.  This program is not for the weak of heart, so bring a friend you can cling to, and come ready to hear some tales that explore the strange, mysterious and unexplained!

Home Brewing for Beginners

Learn to brew like a master! Jason Smith, owner of Adventures in Homebrewing, will teach you the basics of brewing beer at home. Jason started brewing in 1992 and opened his first store in 1999. In addition to owning two stores, one in Ann Arbor, he is also a Brew Club member, Beer Judge and vintner. Join us for a fun and informative evening.

Adult Get Crafty: Garden Stepping Stone

Join Marie King in a Get Crafty program for adults. Everyone will get to create and decorate their own concrete garden stepping stone.

Adult Battle of the Books for Charity

Each team will pay $25 to participate and will indicate their non-library charity of choice. The winning team will have a donation made to the charity of their choice. Teams are a maximum of 5 participants each. Register with a team and we will provide you with the list of books. Please see an Adult librarian for more information.

1,000 Mile Great Lakes Walk

Michigan native Loreen Niewenhuis, has always had a connection to and deep love of Lake Michigan. She decided to make the 1,000 mile trek around the lake and then wrote "A 1,000 Mile Walk on the Beach: One Woman's Trek of the Perimeter of Lake Michigan." Next she decided to touch every Great Lake and her second big trek resulted in "A 1,000 Mile Great Lake Walk.". Loreen will share her fascinating story with us on October 29th at 7:00 PM.
