Salem-South Lyon Digital Archives (IN HOUSE ONLY)

  • 1929-2007: In-House Access Only. The archives include South Lyon Herald newspaper issues from 1929 from 2007 -- digitized and fully searchable to help you find the information you need.
  • 2008 - 2016: In-House Access Only. Issues are available on CDs for in-house use at the library and can be requested at the adult reference desk.
  • 1929-1945 Remote Access Available
  • Thanks to generous support from Clarke Historical Library, issues of The South Lyon Herald from January 31, 1929, through December 27, 1945, are available remotely. You can view, search, and download scans of the issues.

Help us improve the archive!

Scanning software identifies much of the text in a document, but occasional transcription errors occur.  You can contribute to manually correct these errors.

  1. Here’s how you can help:
    Register for a free account. Click on the Register button in the upper right corner of the Digital Michigan Newspapers webpage.  Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email. Click the link in the email to finalize your registration.
  2. Select an issue of the paper that you would like to correct. (Note: you must be logged in to your account in order to correct the scans.)
  3. Click on a scan.  The panel on the left side of the screen will provide the option to “Correct this text.”
  4. Choose a section to correct, and compare the text in the panel to the text in the scan.  Make any needed adjustments and then click “Save.”
  5. Proceed to the next section you would like to correct.  When you have finished, click “Save & Exit.”
