Eligibility & Requirements

Free cards are available to residents, business/property owners, or staff in:

  • City of South Lyon
  • Salem, Northfield, or Green Oak Townships

Youth cards (ages 0–17) require a parent/guardian to apply and assume responsibility.

Non-residents:

  • $130/year per household
  • Lyon Township families: $32.50 summer pass (June–Aug)
  • Lyon Twp minors can borrow up to 5 items with home card

ID Required: Bring valid photo ID with your current address. If outdated, include a recent bill or lease (within 3 months).

Card Management

Renew Annually: Online or in person with valid ID.

Lost Card? Report it right away. You’re responsible for all items until it’s deactivated. Replacement requires valid ID.

Borrowing, Renewing & Returns

Loan Periods:

  • Books: 28 days (new books: 14–21)
  • Audiobooks: 28 days (new: 21)
  • DVDs/CDs: 7 days (new DVDs: 3 days)
  • 10-item max for CDs, DVDs, or audiobooks

SSLDL participates in The Library Network (50+ libraries). You can use your card at all member locations.

Renewals: Online, phone (248) 437-6431, or 24/7 at (888) 672-8983

Items must not be on hold or exceed $10 in fines.

Returns: At the library, drive-up book drop, or Centennial Farms. Include all parts to avoid charges.

Fees & Fines

Late Fees:

  • Books: $0.10/day
  • DVDs/CDs: $0.50/day
  • Youth materials: $0.25/day
  • Borrowing suspended at $10 in fees
  • Lost items: full replacement cost

Payment Options: Cash, check, or credit card (in person or online)

Helpful Tips

Keep Your Receipts: Review due dates printed on each item or digital checkout receipts.

Renew Promptly: Use courtesy reminders and renew before items are overdue.

PIN Security: Never share your PIN. All library records are private per the Michigan Library Privacy Act.

Responsibility: You’re responsible for everything borrowed on your card. Report lost cards promptly to avoid unwanted charges.

How to Apply

Select the appropriate application tab below to begin. Choose Adult Card if you are 18 or older, or Youth Card if applying for a minor. Once completed, your application will be sent to library staff for review.

Release of a Minor's Library Records

Under section 3 of the Michigan Library Privacy Act, M.C.L. 397.603, a library shall not release or disclose a library record without consent of the person liable for payment or return of the materials identified in that record. Only the parent or legal guardian who has certified responsibility for the borrowed materials may authorize disclosure of the records.
