The Library welcomes middle and high school students, ages 14-18, to join our team as teen volunteers. Teen volunteers work alongside library staff on a variety of projects throughout the school year. Opportunities may include assisting with library events, preparing materials, creating displays, organizing supplies, and other behind-the-scenes projects.
Volunteer shifts will be available as library needs arise and be shared with registered volunteers through SignUp Genius.
Most volunteer opportunities will take place Monday-Thursday between 3:00 and 8:00 pm and are typically 1-2 hours long. There is no minimum volunteer commitment.
To get started, complete the registration form and a librarian will email you to guide you through the next steps which will include completing a work permit if you are under 18 (this is a State of Michigan requirement).
You should plan that it will take about a week to complete all of the registration steps. We do not guarantee that there will be immediate volunteer opportunities available once you are registered. For these reasons the Library might not be a good option for you if you need last minute volunteer hours.
Please note the following:
- A work permit is required to volunteer. As part of the work permit process, each student’s age will be verified.
- 18-year-olds who have already graduated from high school are not eligible for this program.
- The Library cannot serve as a location for court ordered community service.
